Keeping up with fast paced technology evolution doesn’t have to be the driver of madness!

There’s no value in innovative technology if it can’t be integrated into your infrastructure. Read on.

If you’re involved in managing properties, you’ll have noticed that the landscape in which you work is changing at a considerable pace. New technologies designed to help you work more effectively and efficiently are appearing left, right, and center. Think, for example, about the growing stream of remote devices and new platforms that are now available to you.

In theory, all this progress is good news. It should mean that you can make more informed decisions about how to manage your buildings and be more responsive in how you react to circumstances around you. It should also mean that the mountain of valuable operational data that you’re collecting from remote sensors can be put to even more beneficial use, at least if you can access it.

The trouble is getting the component parts of our new world to work in harmony with each other.

All these promising devices and systems that you want (or even need) to use often have different protocols and that means getting them to communicate and work with each other can be seemingly impossible. Plug and play is the ideal state, but the fact is that many of the devices in question that you wish to aggregate under the control of a single platform utilize proprietary protocols which presents you with a simple question that you must answer:

How do I manage both legacy and hybrid technology environments at the same time, particularly considering the ever more diverse range of applications that I find myself wanting to use?

Well, let’s find out the answer.

What are drivers?

Drivers are solutions that give their users the ability to control and monitor specific units that have proprietary control mechanisms without the need to pay for expensive add-on software, and from within the EMS/BMS itself.

Drivers play the role of the building manager’s version of Google Translate for technology devices. For example, Lennox and Novar drivers (exclusively offered by NexRev) are two solutions which overcome the proprietary interface problem. We will examine the NexRev Lennox driver in more detail in an upcoming blog so keep watching this space.

You don’t want to be locked in!

For the present, the point we want to make is this: you need an EMS/BMS that can communicate with all the components in your infrastructure because you want to maximize the return on your existing investments, reduce your costs, and not have to bear the cost of replacing legacy devices that are doing their job.

The good news, working with NexRev you can achieve interoperability and open a clear path to a cloud-based, multi-site, open Freedom EMS/BMS solution.

Freedom allows users to quickly and easily add multiple new devices for many applications increasing data collection, remote control, and error alerting capability and operations —building an Energy/Building Management System genuinely optimized for the user’s specific operational needs and for the future.
